Testimonials from Patients
I would recommend that everyone work with Ginger Garner. She is without a doubt the best physical therapist I have ever worked with. She understands the human body like no one I have ever met. She is an intuitive healer and is caring, kind, and knowledgeable. Ginger genuinely wants the best for her patients. She helped me to understand my own body more effectively so I could heal from my injuries. I would drive for hours to see Ginger as a patient. All of Ginger’s techniques are backed by the latest evidence based practice. She is an inspiration to me and so many others. If you want to feel your best I highly recommend you do yourself a favor and see Ginger Garner.
She has also been a mentor for me as a physical therapist since completing her Professional Yoga Therapist training program.
Katie Estridge PT, MPT, PYTCharlotte, NCDr. Garner has been great to work with. She really listens to what the patient says. The ultrasound imaging really helps us confirm what I am feeling. She does a great job looking at the whole body vs. just the area that is hurting which is really important. I have learned a lot about how my muscles are not working well together and how to slowly work to fix this issue. This is due to Dr. Garner literally showing me how certain muscles are inhibited when I try to activate them. I am really glad that I am slowly recovering and hopefully avoiding an unnecessary surgery!
Dr. Nili Patel, PT, DPTRaleigh, NCYou are in excellent hands with Dr. Garner. I felt completely prepared and confident going in to my first labor experience after consulting with her, and have been equally taken care of after giving birth! She is an absolute gem and an extremely knowledgeable provider!
Amy HodgesGreensboro, NCEndometriosis is hard and living with it on a daily basis can make you feel powerless. Dr. Garner is kind, patient and has a wealth of knowledge that is invaluable. After our sessions, I have a ‘roadmap’ to better health, feel more empowered and have the confidence to go back to my daily life, take control of my disease, and move forward instead of staying stagnant. Thank you, Dr. Garner, for helping me to reclaim my life!!
Terri CarrAmanda, OHDr. Garner is amazing! She truly cares about what you are struggling with and goes above and beyond to help come up with a plan of treatment to fix it. Before finding Garner Pelvic Health, I was terrified about what to do and who to go to for help with my Endometriosis diagnosis. Finding Dr. Garner was such a blessing. She has truly been extraordinary in helping me take control back my health and listened to every single ailment that has come up in this Endo journey. She has such a passion for helping women through their Endo journey. Highly recommend!!
Sarah CattoGreensboro, NCSo grateful for Dr. Garner and the team at Garner Pelvic Health! I was feeling so lost on my journey with endometriosis and have received such expertise, compassion and care working with Dr. Garner. Every appointment I feel I leave with a clear, actionable plan that is helping me reach my goals. Dr. Garner takes such a holistic and individual approach and my work with her has truly changed my life. Thanks team- forever grateful!
Emma JackOntario, CanadaI have LOVED working with Dr. Garner! I started seeing her 2 years post partum after my second, then got pregnant with my third and we started working on prenatal techniques. After recently having my third, I have felt stronger and have bounced back quicker than with my previous pregnancies. I’m looking forward to healing my pelvic floor with Dr. Garner’s wealth of knowledge and evidence based techniques.
Page DavisSophia, NCI worked with Dr. Garner virtually for several visits and it was truly fantastic. My goal to be able to do yoga with my limitations felt unreachable. She was also able to help me with my hip pain with this plan. She is so knowlegeable about hip and hyper mobility (only 2 of my issues). It is ashame that there are not more practitioners like her so we can do in person visits. I without hestitation would go to her again, and would highly recommend that you do the same. You won’t be disappointed!
Amy RempelHouston, TXI travelled a long distance to work with Dr Garner intensively to aid my recovery from several hip arthroscopies. Her knowledge of this complex area is unrivalled, particularly as she understands both the hip and pelvic aspects of this tricky recovery. Dr Garner is utterly forensic in hunting down the root cause of issues, and putting together a bespoke plan to tackle. Despite working intensively, the experience was very easy due to Dr Garner’s warm hearted empathetic nature, and extreme patience – there was no question she could not answer! A true expert in her field I am very grateful for her guidance.
Caroline WithallLondon, EnglandDr. Garner’s attention to detail helped to uncover an existing issue impeding the healing of a fresh injury. Without her insight, I would have continued to have pain and swelling which may have led to chronic pain or even re-injury. Her careful evaluation put me on the road to recovery. I cannot thank her enough and would recommend her whole-heartedly.
M. ChriscoeSeagrove, NCGinger Garner’s expertise is fascinating, and it’s refreshing to be with a specialist who really cares and takes the time to explain and provide training for patients to help themselves. The photo should be amusing, but it was also very informative when she explained the connection between the voice, the throat and that entire tube going through our body all the way down to the pelvic floor. Everything is connected. Muscles and ligaments interact with our diaphragmatic breathing and all that affects the condition of the pelvic floor area. Dr. Garner’s enthusiasm for her work, her scholarship, her research and clinical evidence reveals her integrity, and I’m grateful to have found such an interesting Doctor who is multifaceted in her approach. I know she has a great female clientele, but I wish more men would seek out her treatments for their benefit, as well.
Brad CrookerGraham, NCIt was Dr. Garner’s pelvic and orthopaedic PT experience, deep knowledge and expertise combined with her true emotional intelligence that reached me. Her physical and emotional guidance throughout my hip arthroscopy recovery empowered me with the understanding and tools I needed to move, heal, and finally be free. I live in Honolulu and after several online sessions with Dr. Garner I (with no hesitation) made two separate trips (during the global pandemic) to visit her in person in her clinic in Greensboro. The way she listens deeply, works intently, follows up deliberately and cares completely and compassionately makes the thousands of miles beyond worth it. I literally use what she’s taught me every day. Dr. Garner generously provides information through a wide variety of mediums (social media, blog, youtube, workshops, books, online and in clinic!) and I encourage you to learn from her however you can! Dr. Garner has my complete trust and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Kimberly BurnettHonolulu, HIDr Garner is amazing and I’m so glad I found her. Her holistic approach in treating a chronic pain issue has been wonderfully effective, and her knowledgeable and almost intuitive understanding of the cause and effects of the pain is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced in a treatment center. Perhaps it’s because she listens so carefully, or maybe it’s her years of experience. Molly, my wonderful Pilates coach, recommended her highly, and boy am I glad she did. Very grateful to have found Dr Garner.
C. MayDr. Garner is incredibly knowledgeable, creative and compassionate. She takes the time to listen and has the experience to get to the root cause of the problem. After each session I leave feeling empowered to do the work I need to do to get better. And she does it all with a gentle smile and good humor. I drive an hour to see her and it is worth it!
Annie TadrossDr. Garner is first and foremost an excellent listener. She listened to my difficulties, asked questions, put together a plan and asked me what I thought and how my body felt all through the process. She was creative in finding solutions for my unique issues. We worked together to develop a plan. She kept detailed notes and found solutions that will work for me and my lifestyle. Dr. Garner’s knowledge is wide ranging and she is very caring and aware of individual needs. I felt improvement in my first visit and can see a path forward to more physical improvement.
Kathryn, GarciaThose of you in the Greensboro area, count yourselves blessed that Ginger Garner is opening her practice near you! Ginger has gentle hands, a tender heart, and a head full of knowledge. She has successfully helped me recover from shoulder surgery, knee pain, lower back pain, and sacroiliac joint issues. There is no physical therapist, yogi, or Pilates instructor of her equal!! She cares for the whole body, and will make you feel both better physically and better about yourself. From personal experience, I can highly recommend Ginger.
Lane HarrisEmerald Isle, NCI am a singer/songwriter and teacher, so my voice is of special significance in my life. When I began to have severe throat and neck pain while speaking and singing, Ginger was recommended to me by a friend. At that time and for the next two years, Ginger’s practice was five minutes from my home. As I met with her during these two years, she would listen attentively to my needs and concerns and respond with many helps. Ginger prescribed therapeutic exercises for me to practice on my own and made certain that I knew how to do them correctly by giving a written explanation as well as providing videos for reinforcement. In addition, Ginger referred me to other practitioners for systemic health concerns that I shared with her. Ginger couples compassion and gentleness with diligent expertise in her treatment of patients. Even though Ginger has recently relocated, I still enjoy the benefits of her treatment as I begin every morning with the exercises she taught me. I am grateful for God’s provision of Ginger’s gifting to guide me through a season of pain into rest. Thank you, Ginger!
Carla WestEmerald Isle, NCI couldn’t recommend Ginger enough! She saved me from a second shoulder surgery. I am very impressed with the way she blends Western medicine with Eastern knowledge and techniques. She didn’t ignore the need for x-rays, and possible surgery; but worked with me on an anti-inflammatory diet and gave me appropriate exercises to try to bring function back to my shoulder. It worked!!! We were both diligent and after 6 months, I am happy to say I am pain free and have near full range of motion! What a wonderful experience. I am now a Yoga and Ginger fan! And, am on my way in learning about “clean eating”. It has all made a tremendous difference in my energy, health and overall quality of life! Thank You!!!
Debbie PeelSwansboro, NCThe holistic and all-encompassing approach Ginger takes in her life and her practice is second to none. Ginger shared several options to look into that would provide more of the holistic type of care we wanted throughout our pregnancy and during delivery as well as the birth classes she provided.
We met with Ginger for several sessions in the months leading up to delivery. During that time she not only shared information with me about the stage of pregnancy and techniques to help mentally and physically prepare for the natural, drug-free, child birth we desired, but also with my husband. This was our first pregnancy and we both wanted to have all the tools we could to have a completely natural childbirth. She suggested laboring positions for different stages and types of labor. She also shared what to expect postpartum and with breastfeeding. She shared a variety of answers to the many questions I seemed to have every visit.
We felt so confident going into the birth knowing that Ginger had prepared us with all the tools necessary. We are so genuinely grateful for the sessions we had with Ginger before, during and after the birth of our daughter, and son. Oh and the ujyaii/victorious breath, I will forever be grateful for that breath Ginger helped me master… One doesn’t know the depth of a breath until you’re mid contraction!
Thank you Ginger, for helping us navigate this terrifying and thrilling experience and for truly listening to and understanding our questions, thoughts and concerns about becoming parents.Brittany ShippSwansboro, NCThank you Ginger….thank you, thank you…..for introducing me to yoga.
It has been the best thing I’ve ever done for my body and my mind and my soul and my music and my family and my well being and…well you get the idea. I never imagined, four years ago when I was having such trouble with my back, that I’d be doing back bends and arm stands like I could do when I was a teenager. I never thought I’d be running 4 to 5 miles at a time again either. I don’t feel like I’ll be 50 in just a few short months. I feel the best I’ve felt in a long time. I wonder how I’ll feel at sixty? Bring it on!Angie CooperSwansboro, NCDr. Garner was not the first physical therapist in Greensboro that I went to but she was the last, because she was able to help me where others didn’t quite have the right tools, knowledge, or drive. She takes the time to get to know you and your issue(s) and has such a wonderful “bedside manner” as to make you feel comfortable even in uncomfortable situations. I highly recommend her and her practice.

Testimonials from Professionals
Ginger, I am so grateful for your program. I don’t know where I would be mentally, emotionally or physically today, especially during COVID. Yoga opened doors within me that I forgot were there, and this has been a great gift I wasn’t seeking or expecting. If you ever feel in the coming days like you are talking into the void, know that people are hearing your message and appreciate you for sharing it!
Dr. Sarah Talley PT, DPTRaleigh, NCI just wanted to thank you for all you have done for me and let you know just how impactful you have been on my life. The past 5 years have some of the best and most stressed I have ever experienced. Because of you and the lessons learned at PYTI, I feel totally prepared for it all.
I am practicing therapy the way patients deserve. I am happy working and the community loves MTY!
My oldest son, Robert, was diagnosed with autism this year. I feel like all the training prepared me for this and he LOVES all the asana, pranayama, and vocal toning exercises we do. He is thriving and happy.
Thank you for helping shape my life into this beautiful mess. I am forever grateful. .
Dr. Becca Ellis, PT, DPTVirginia Beach, VAGinger is a wise and compassionate health care provider who blends medical yoga with rehabilitation programming, and she has an extensive background of patient care service. Her style is forward thinking towards patient education, empowerment, and optimization of function, and she works with other health care team members to provide a healing community of care. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Maureen Mason-Cover PT, DPT, WCSSan Diego, CAI came to the Medical Therapeutic Yoga program as very yoga-curious, but perhaps also a little yoga-skeptical. A colleague had been through the program and she raved about it and used yoga in some way in nearly every session, so there was clearly something there, but I wasn’t sure what. I’ve never been one to let other people know something I don’t, so I took the leap.
And, well, now I get it.
Ginger has managed to combine the medical science that I know and love with the science of yoga in a way that was sensible, practical and compelling. Bringing in elements of functional medicine and integrated lifestyle medicine cinched the deal.
MTY makes sense. It works. It is something I can integrate into my treatment with just about everybody in my pediatric outpatient practice in one way or another.
Sue Berres, OTR/L, PYTCharlottesville, VAThank you so much for creating an amazingly comprehensive and intelligent body of work! I feel I have only a dipped a toe in but have already started applying the FMA to some select patients. I am so excited to move into this work more and find it hugely relevant to those of us who are in the last half of our lives.
Bravo Ginger for the work you have created and the vast amount of work you are doing to launch a saner approach to therapy.Dr. Leigh Sato, PT, DPT, NCS, MSCSCharlottesville, VAGinger’s program has restored my love and perspective that physical therapy is a healing ART. I had been feeling uninspired, deflated by the obstacles in the healthcare/insurance system, and was losing sight of what drew me to the healthcare field in the first place. It gave me a solid evidence based framework from which to integrate “whole person”, yogic, lifestyle medicine into my physical therapy foundation.
It has since sparked joy, creativity, and a broader perspective into my clinical practice.
Dr. Katie Goroncy, PT, DPTSalida, COThank you for creating ALL of this amazing material, the Integrative Lifestyle Medicine & Medical Therapeutic Yoga programs, and for compiling the vast amounts of research and information for our fields in PT and OT — and for heath care people overall!
Kjirsten Winters, OTR/LFederal Way, WAThis program has been an absolutely life changing experience for me. Initially, I was drawn to the program in hopes of gaining more knowledge on how to manage clients, particularly the chronic pain population, in a more holistic manner. The concepts made sense to me and reinforced my current approach. Also, I wanted to be more precise in my use of yoga postures therapeutically. All of these superficial goals were achieved after the first onsite module, then it evolved into something much more. It cracked me open, but lead to self-realization and healing that I needed.
Paige Raffo, PT, MPT, PYTSeattle, WAThis is what I’ve been searching for since I got out of school 8 years ago. I have peace about where I’m going. It’s not stressful like all those other CE courses I thought I “had” to go to.
This is truly the best clarity I have had since graduating – I’m becoming the holistic physical therapist that I want to be – to take me through an exciting and successful career! I have taken continuing education like yoga for rehabilitation, nutrition in physical therapy, chronic pain management, etc. but NOTHING has put it all together and gone above and beyond like the Integrative Lifestyle Medicine program!
I wish I found it sooner – this is how people WANT to be cared for!
Dr. Amanda Wold, PT, DPTAmery, WIMTY provided me with the framework for discussing (Lifestyle Medicine) – the difficult and vague topics of depression, anxiety, stress, nutrition, and sleep quality, which were constantly influencing my patient outcomes. I could better understand when to refer patients and had a finer way of educating them on what encompassed good lifestyle habits. Since implementing MTY, I have noticed a significant shift in my ability to deliver care that is more effective and capable of providing a whole person approach. It has set the stage for much more successful outcomes with my patients across the board. The MTY method is proof that providing care in underserved populations with access to very little resources can still produce positive outcomes.
Dr. Kassandra Prutsman, PT, DPTPinehurst, NCMedical Therapeutic Yoga has been an invaluable piece of my life – both professionally and personally. Finding safe community while learning to use my voice in a powerful way has probably been the most valuable thing I have learned through this training.
Dr. Alicia Hedges, PT, DPTWeaverville, NCPartnership with Yoga in PT is a sustainable and cost effective way to deliver evidence based compassionate care. Not only has it helped my patients to feel empowered for self care, it has also infused new found enthusiasm in my PT practice, which is sustainable for my wellbeing too.
Kanchan Thakar, PTCampbell, CAMedical Therapeutic Yoga is also beneficial for the physical therapist. This methodology teaches the patient how to heal all aspects of their wellbeing and utilizes a team approach to care, thereby decreasing the pressure of the therapist to “fix” the patient. MTY has helped me tremendously to better handle stressful situations and has actually helped with my perception of stress.
I truly believe this methodology can change healthcare and the lives of healthcare providers by decreasing burnout! Thank you so much Ginger for creating this wonderful program!
Janelle Perfetto, PTFrederick, MDI’ve come to believe that most powerful aspect of yoga that I can impart to my patients is dhyana, or meditation. Countless studies affirm the benefits across a range of body systems, but the most immediate for my needs is helping people address pain.
Joy McKinney, PTYakima, WAI use MTY with every patient, regardless of if they are 80 with chronic pain, an acute shoulder, or someone in an MVA with whiplash injury. The majority of these patients all have 2 things in common: pain & response to pain.
According to the American Physical Therapy Association, “PTs examine each individual and develop a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.” We often think of treatment techniques as being exercise, but we now know that treatment is so much more than that. It is the inclusion of pain management, nutrition, looking at the patients’ well-being…All of these are inclusive of the Biopsychosocial Model in MTY.
Brandis Gunderson, PTBellingham, WAMTY applies to my entire life—it creates that balance between rest and activation, searching and finding, releasing and relaxing, lifting and letting go. Through discovering my own biopsychosocial model to health and wellness, I have discovered that place of intersection where my passion, my talents, my mission, and a need for my service all meet to find my dharma, “to support, hold, or bear.” I will first put on my own oxygen mask, breath for myself, forgive and love myself madly, all to be able to step into my own true essence: serving myself so that I can better serve others.
Dr. Meghan Nelson, PT, DPTSioux City, IAIn our present healthcare system, the Biomedical Model an “episode” of care begins with disease or impairment. The patient is treated for a diagnosis for an interval of time typically pre-determined by the payor. This standard of care treats the diagnosis first with the provider as the expert dominating the care of the patient. MTY and its biopsychosocial model provide a platform that eloquently establishes and grows a provider-patient partnership along a continuum of care.
Dr. Mary Fran Weber PT, DPTRichmond, VAThe MTY focus on body awareness, breath awareness and spinal neutral through the yoga couch provides a powerful platform to address each individual through a biopsychosocial lens, while also creating a communal experience through the class offering. It allows me to bring what could be offered on a table to the mat, allowing it to be more affordable and more accessible. Individuals will be able to take parts of the practice home with them and continue independently through the postures, which creates autonomy outside of the class.
MTY supports my practice as an MFR therapist. It provides me with additional tools to create independence for my patients and gives them tools to promote balance & wellness in their real life.
What I’m able to offer to my fellow women and mothers is an offering that addresses their whole body and provides real health care in an affordable and accessible way.Dr. Lindsay Hammersmith PT, DPTSedona, AZWitnessing how the biopsychosocial MTY model can have such an impact on people re-energizes me as a practitioner and I am excited to see what lies ahead. Using this model will improve our role as medical managers, helping patients navigate their way through the healthcare system. When we work from a central space of empathy, knowledge, and compassion, we influence the wellbeing of the whole self, which is the only way we can make lasting changes.
Dr. Rachel Gorman PT, DPTCharlotte, NC“I wish I knew then what I know now.”
How many times have we all said that? I believe that everything happens for a reason and I probably needed to be seasoned. But as a practicing physical therapist of 40 years, I can think of more than a few patients, myself included, that could have benefited from Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) and a biopsychosocial approach in treatment, wellness and life.
The conventional wisdom when I was in PT school was not to discuss with patients most aspects of the 5-limbed yogic biopsychosocial model with the exception of the physical feature.
Change is necessary. The biomedical model presently used is necessary in the management of disease. When combined with the biopsychosocial model in MTY we can provide the foundation for collaboration of interdisciplinary relationships with the support necessary for active patient participation in their health care and promotion of healthy lifestyle choices.
Robbie Burney, PTAtlanta, GAWith my training in Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY), I have found my professional missing link. Ginger Garner has taken the art and philosophy of yoga and looked at it through the eyes of of medical research to discern what is safe and beneficial or what is likely to cause injury. She teaches Professional Yoga Therapists to focus on stabilization of the body and protection of the spine and joints, and she uses yoga poses to create the most functional strengthening framework that I’ve seen as a PT.
MTY incorporates the ancient Ayurvedic principles around treating the whole person- building strength, teaching breathing as a tool for regulating the emotions and the nervous system, emphasizing the importance of non-violence towards others and looking at what constitutes violence in thought, word, or deed towards yourself, and knowing that food has a profound affect on health.
In Medical Therapeutic Yoga, I have a framework for helping patients learn what it feels like to have control and stability in their body- there is so much that is empowering in that feeling.
Hallie Sikes, PTAlbemarle, NCThrough combining physical therapy and MTY, patients will be able to achieve a better awareness of allostasis in order to encourage a sense of equanimity. Teaching patients that certain stressors can lead to growth, but also how to reduce negative stress that leads to physical and emotional breakdown. Through MTY, both patients and providers are less likely to reach burnout stage in work or family life, are more able to determine and set boundaries, to live in balance with their community, to stop letting fear drive their behavior, and feel more content and satisfied with their daily lives.
Medical Therapeutic Yoga is beautiful tool to begin healing ourselves and our communities.
Dr. KC Coninx, DPTLouisville, KYThe use of Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) has transformed my physical therapy practice by emphasizing the use of education, self-awareness, and self-empowerment with my patients, thereby enabling them to become partners in their own healing.
I am energized by the positive changes in my patients since integrating MTY into my practice.Dr. Betty Conroy, PTBaltimore, MDLet’s take a patient to use as an example of how I utilize MTY as a PT. This patient is a mother of two, who has been experiencing severe low back pain (LBP) & radicular symptoms for eight months. She took the traditional medical route of seeing her physician, who prescribed PT. Subsequently she completed six months of traditional physical therapy at another clinic. Her treatment was not providing her with relief. She also sought out massage therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, had an MRI, and desperately resorted to an epidural steroid injection. The patient reported no change in her symptoms, and maybe even some worsening of her symptoms following the epidural.
In just two visits, her pain has been reduced in half and she is seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Her mood & her overall energy has been elevated. She loves the home program which she is diligently completing. I have no doubt that she is on her way to a full recovery. She may shine her light once again and be the mother, wife, friend, and daughter she strives to be.
Dr. Rachel Witmer PT, DPTCedar Rapids, IAMTY synergizes with the current, mainstream practice of PT. It builds on a solid framework to evaluate & treat movement issues using standardized assessments & evidence based treatment approaches. But MTY doesn’t stop there. MTY empowers therapists to look beyond the body part, using more holistic approaches by delving into all 5 areas of the human being using the BPS model of care. MTY doesn’t just say, “Use more holistic treatment approaches.” PYTI® provides the specialized training & evidence based education to empower the students to be aware of things like the diet-inflammation connection, PTSD considerations in therapy, social and cultural limitations, etc.
MTY sets a reproducible model for a BPS based practice and sets the stage for us to leave behind the dominant model of disease, the biomedical model, which “leaves no room within its framework for the social, psychological, and behavioral dimensions of illness.” (Engel)Wendy Driscoll, PTOver the course of my professional career I have been striving to find the best treatment method that would make the biggest impact on my patients. Almost 20 years, and many continuing education courses later, I believe that I have come upon the best methodology that satisfies these requirements. That method is Medical Therapeutic Yoga.
Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) is defined as yoga prescription that utilizes evidenced based practice and streamlines clinical assessment and management to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
The BPS model and MTY can help support our patients on their human-spiritual journey while using evidence- based techniques that combine eastern ideology with western science. It can effectively guide our patients (and ourselves!) to deeper levels of self- awareness and holistic healing.Jessica Smithson OTR/LScottsdale, AZThe focus with MTY is on stress resilience through meditation, self-care habits, breathwork, mindful movement and awareness, self reflection, and nutrition.
If stress can be managed more effectively and student athletes can be educated on lifestyle and health risk choices, then there could be many long-term benefits on the field and off the field.Erin McCabe, ATCLebanon, NHI was first drawn to Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) by a desire to provide safe and biomechanically sound yoga by training with a neuromuscular expert. However, what I learned was much more, as training in MTY opens up
a holistic and individual centered approach to healthcare. By avoiding a reductionist system of evaluation, and, instead, utilizing a biopsychosocial model of assessment that encompasses a multifaceted approach to health, MYT allows the practitioner to provide high quality care.
For Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, by incorporating the evidence-based techniques taught in the MYT method, we are offering patients and ourselves so much more…. More compassion, greater understanding of the root cause of illness, disease prevention, as well as efficacious treatments.Jamie Reddinger RN, MSN, CSN, CPNP-PC/AC, PYTSewickley, PAI have countless examples of how MTY has positively impacted the patients I work with on a daily basis. Pranayama has been one of the best tools, and is a powerful approach to re-building the foundation of an individual’s therapeutic success and well-being. Patients, who refused to get out of bed due to anxiety and fear were able to breathe (literally) past their fears and achieve their OT goals for the day. MTY is a life-changing approach in prevention and intervention, and encompasses the compassion needed to make real change. I am committed to continuing my training in MTY and further my abilities to heal in acute settings and beyond.
Jamie Jacobsen OTR/LPhiladelphia, PAIt is in this (pediatric) messy and incredible setting that MTY blends so effortlessly. As a traditional biomedically trained physical therapist and athletic trainer and also a 200 hr trained yoga teacher, I already recognized the need for synchrony between Eastern and Western Medicine. I couldn’t facilitate motor development if the child was never free to move. I couldn’t “fix” a cihld’s body if she couldn’t effectively take a deep breath. And I couldn’t really help a family that didn’t want to heal. When I stumbled upon the Professional Yoga Therapy Institute it was such a present. Here was a well-established and thoroughly evidence-based body of work designed to comprehensively lead me down the path I was already navigating on my own.
Sara Weisner, PT, ATC, LATCharlotte, NCMedical Therapeutic Yoga has been the addition to my physical therapy practice that I have been searching for. It has been an incredible tool to help my clients reconnect to their true self through breath work, postures/asanas, visualizations, and meditation.
MTY takes an approach that incorporates all these pieces (spiritual, physical, emotional), and then some. I have witnessed my patients find a deep sense of relief with the implementation of MTY, both in their body and mind.Dr. Jenna Weitzman, DPTAptos, CACompleting Level I Medical Therapeutic Yoga with Ginger has opened a whole new world for me to help my patients as an Occupational Therapist. Ginger has created a way healthcare professionals can incorporate both eastern and western medicine in patient care. I have become a life long learner of medical therapeutic yoga. Thank you Ginger!
Kara Biller, OTR/LNarragansett, RIAs a therapist, I am prone to “burning out” if I do not give back and take care of myself, which can lead to impartial outcomes. MTY has imparted me with a lifestyle of prioritizing self-care to stay balanced and healthy. By living and embodying what I teach, I can naturally care for and guide my patients with a balanced and compassionate approach.
Dr. Sylvie Le, PT, DPT, PYT-cProvidence, RII just wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoyed your six week Medical Therapeutic Yoga series!
I’m not sure if you remember me from the training in Aptos right before the world got “locked down”….but this weekly practice with you has been a huge gift. It has really helped me through this strange time and kept me inspired.
I’ve been practicing everything from your weekend Level I Certification on a (mostly) daily basis, and I have to say I feel healthier and just generally better than I have in years. And that’s during a worldwide pandemic!
Thank you for everything you’ve been doing over the past few months to help everyone in our community find the light.
Dr. Michelle Walendowski PT, DPTGig Harbor, WAYou are the elixir for which the world thirsts. I find myself feeling light, refreshed, grounded, hopeful, pain free, rested, & resilient after these classes. Who knew virtual Medical Therapeutic Yoga —in the right hands, like Dr. Ginger Garner’s — could yield such profound, restorative, immediate benefits! I’m delighted, (and not easily impressed, being a nationally board-certified orthopedic doctor of physical therapist —& decades-long, certified professional yoga therapist — myself.)
You are a trusted gem in a sea of on-line unknowns, Dr. Garner, and a gift to us all. Thank you for keeping us safe, evidence-grounded, & soulfully uplifted. I have not personally experienced a more nimble biopsychosocial rehabilitation guide. I am grateful for the grace of your teachings, virtual and face-to-face. You are a restoring healer, & a true Essential Worker in these challenging times. I am eager to continue this practice.
Dr. Dina Macs PT, DPT, OCSOlympia, WAGinger really sets a precedent for what a holistic practitioner should be. Her command of the body on multiple levels and commitment to her clients gives her the ability to quickly zero in on the issue and precisely remedy the cause of a variety of issues. She also has a unique set of skills and experience that makes her an absolute expert in the hip region. As a seasoned physical therapist myself, who also specializes in the hip region, Ginger is one of a handful of colleagues that I truly look up to and go to for help. To put icing on the cake, her demeanor is so pleasant and she is a joy to be around!
Christine Koth, PTWalnut Creek, CASince returning from Yoga as Lifestyle Medicine II, I have been trying to get my hands on as many bodies as possible, work the FMA (functional movement assessment), integrate this in with my way of being, essentially. This client was the mother of my neighbor, and at the end of it she says, with tears in her eyes, “I really think this is going to help.” I cannot adequately express how changed I am as a result of this program. I left M8 with the mantra “why not me?” Each module has facilitated a shift in me that was so fundamental, so necessary. I unquestionably needed to get out of my own way before I could help anybody else. It is still a process, but I have realized that the best way to progress is just that–to keep moving forward.
So thank you, Ginger. Thank you for giving so tirelessly of yourself to better the lives of so many people. I am forever changed, and forever grateful.Catherine Apicella PT, PYT-CHatfield, PAA patient was referred with a diagnosis of “neck strain.” On the first visit, patient quietly shared the mechanism of her injury which was a physical and sexual assault by her husband whom she continued to live with. There was minimal eye contact and many guarded movements and posturing. Prior to her injury, she worked as an artist but had been unable to pursue this due the dominant UE weakness, neural and postural pain. One of the goals we quickly established was the ability to progress back to painting for her creative and healing expression. It was a humbling and exciting privilege to guide her through the multifaceted healing process using all the PYTI precepts of care I learned from Ginger. We are both excited to share she has returned to her painting and sketching. She has been a great spokesperson for PYTI to all her previously skeptical physical health care providers; giving them my business cards and program information. We were both transformed in this working relationship: she received the healing nurturing care necessary for health, I received inspiration and renewed professional excitement which is beneficial to MY health!
Roselee Wondra, PT, PYTShakopee, MNGinger,
Being in your presence the past several days (at Module 8/Yoga as Medicine I) has provided such a light for me for many reasons. I cannot thank you enough for who you are as an individual and clinician, what you provide to others, and your tremendous vision to move forward. I embraced every moment and will continue to do so!Dr. Tawna Wilkinson, PT, DPT, PhD, PCSPhoenix, AZThank you for your thoughtful and encouraging feedback. I found myself feeling quite sad when I walked away today and realized I only have one onsite module left. These weeks with you and the other wonderful women in attendance have been so precious to me. Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge and creativity with those of us who are eager to learn from you. You’re an inspiration to me not only in my practice, but in my life.
Ruth Hulette, DOM, PYT-CSanta Fe, NMThank you for revolutionizing healthcare — I am so honored and proud to be a part of this pioneering movement!
Wendy PT, PYT-CRaleigh, NCMy wife and I both took your yoga PYT course in the 90s in Minneapolis Minnesota. I just wanted to let you know that I have been in love with yoga ever since then and continue to practice it several times a week period I also incorporate parts of it in my practice as a physical therapist. I feel better than ever and attribute much of it to my yoga practice. I recommend yoga to my patients. It is great to see that you continue to do fantastic work as a PT and Professional Yoga Therapist.
