Medical Therapeutic Yoga is a comprehensive and scholarly book that effectively bridges the gap between allied medical fields and yoga. This landmark volume documents the continuity of yoga with our contemporary understanding of neuromuscular function. Medical therapeutic Yoga is a well-written, beautifully illustrated, and scientifically documented volume that provides an in depth knowledge of the physiological, anatomical, and neurophysiological links to the evolved historical traditions of yoga.”

Stephen W. Porges, PhD
Distinguished University Scientist
Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana
Author of The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation

Medical Therapeutic Yoga offers health care professionals a thorough roadmap to understanding how yoga might be used in their practices and the “how-to” as well. The dense citations create a comfortable foundation for even the most conservative provider that this work is grounded in the best evidence. Rather that patching yoga onto a health care practice, Garner guides the reader into how they can seamlessly weave the healing power of yoga into the very fabric of their vocation.”

Matthew J. Taylor, PT, PhD
Past-president of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, author of Fostering Creativity in Rehabilitation, expert witness for yoga injuries, and director of Smart Safe Yoga.

_gg-headshot-glasses-webMedical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) offers an innovative methodology which changes both the practice of yoga and rehabilitative science by combining them, making MTY a distinct and separate practice from, but yet a complementary arm to, yoga and yoga therapy. This book introduces the health care professional in use and application of physical yoga practice in a biopsychosocial model of assessment for any practice setting and patient or wellness population, and also provides the yoga instructor and yoga therapist the knowledge-base and opportunity to establish a healthy dialogue and partnership-based relationship with healthcare providers who practice medical therapeutic yoga.
