Endometriosis Treatment & Case Management
Orthopedic and pelvic floor therapy are an essential part of managing endometriosis symptoms, but that is not the entire treatment picture. Garner Pelvic Health specializes in managing endometriosis from a holistic, integrative perspective using functional, integrative, and lifestyle medicine. In addition, advanced services in musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging (MSKUS), visceral mobilization, dry needling, electrophysiological agents, and orofacial intervention (voice to pelvic floor approach), allow us to identify and treat root cause(s) of dysfunction. This is particularly important in people who also have EDS and hEDS, dysautonomia, and/or hip dysplasia, because exercise tolerance can be low, fatigue can be high, and traditional approaches to pelvic physical therapy can often fail.Â
What is Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain and other symptoms. Endometriosis is not limited to a disease of the reproductive organs. It can be located in the thoracic cavity including the respiratory diaphragm, lungs, pericardium, lymph nodes, and muscular system. The number one area for endometriosis is the bowel, after the reproductive system, so it’s critical that your team investigates and treats endometriosis like a whole body disease.Â

Here’s how it can help manage endometriosis:
Pelvic Floor, Orthopedic, Orofacial, and Gastrointestinal ImpactÂ
Endometriosis pain can lead to muscle tension and fascial dysfunction not just in the pelvic floor, but body wide. Our team assesses and treats these imbalances, using gentle noninvasive ultrasound imaging to guide treatment planning, and to help to reduce pain and improve overall quality of life.Â
Pain ManagementÂ
Pelvic and orthopedic physical therapy, as well as integrative and lifestyle medicine, include techniques to manage and reduce pelvic pain. Look at our advanced services to understand the modalities and techniques we use to target pain management.Â
Improved Whole Body, Not Just Pelvic and Sexual Function
Endometriosis can affect every system in the body. GPH works in a team approach to ensure you have access to the best care possible. This includes not just addressing musculoskeletal health as it refers to the pelvis, but also overall wellness, sexual function, fitness, and quality of life.Â
Education and Self-CareÂ
Physical therapists experienced in pelvic floor and orthopedic therapy are best suited to manage endometriosis care. We educate individuals with endometriosis about their condition and provide strategies for self-care. At GPH, this includes using integrative and lifestyle medicine therapies through a functional medicine lens, which moves beyond traditional orthopedic and/or pelvic physical therapy.Â
Imaging Biofeedback
Some pelvic health physical therapists use biofeedback techniques to help individuals become more aware of and control their pelvic floor muscles. This can be beneficial in managing pain and improving muscle function. At GPH, we are advanced trained in MSKUS, which guides are evaluation and treatment making prescriptive care individualized. Â
Comprehensive Endometriosis Case Management
Endometriosis does not impact just one system. Many people experience overlapping conditions that contribute to persistent pain and dysfunction, including pelvic floor dysfunction, bladder and bowel symptoms, painful intercourse, hip and back pain, nervous system dysregulation, connective tissue disorders, and hormonal or inflammatory concerns. This is increasingly recognized as the Pelvic Overlap Spectrum (POS). Learn more about the Pelvic Overlap Spectrum here.

We take a whole-person approach to helping you manage endometriosis by assessing all contributing factors, identifying patterns, and helping you understand how multiple systems may be affecting your symptoms.Â
We work collaboratively with your healthcare team to prioritize the next steps in your care, using a 7 pronged approach to care which includes:Â

We Use a Functional, Integrative, and Lifestyle Medicine (FILM) Approach
Our therapists seek to find and treat the root cause of dysfunction and pain. We assess all contributing factors, including gut health and the microbiome, hormone management, and inflammation. Once the root cause is identified, we use our backgrounds in Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine, as well as pelvic physical therapy, manual therapy, dry needling, and rehab ultrasound imaging to help you effectively manage endometriosis.Â
It’s important to note that pelvic physical therapy is just one aspect of a comprehensive approach to managing endometriosis. It works in conjunction with medical treatments, chiefly endometriosis excision, as the gold standard for removing endo and other interventions prescribed by healthcare professionals.Â
