Mistakes to Avoid in PT/OT Business (Yoga and Ayurveda) – Part 3, Kapha
By Dr. KC Coninx PT, DPT, COMT, PYT
There are plenty of blogs, websites, and coaches talking about what you should be doing to maximize your business endeavors…but few are talking about the business mistakes to avoid following a Yogic and Ayurvedic Philosophy. We thought the world needed this, because we genuinely believe that many people could benefit from following Yogic and Ayurvedic wisdom for their personal and professional well-being.
There are 3 parts to this topic, we have already written about 2 of the 3 main doshas and the challenges surrounding each one of them. In this blog, we’ll talk about Kapha. In the previous two blogs, we covered Vata and Pitta.
Kapha Dosha is made of the energy of earth and water. Yogapedia defines Kapha in this way:

“Kapha is a combination of water and earth – two of the basic elements that everything in the universe is made up of, according to the Ayurveda philosophy…
Someone who has this as their dominant dosha is said to be calm, grounded and sensual…Kapha is often compared to the winter season due to the damp and heavy nature of it. It is the energy that helps one to recover from wounds and illnesses and to create new, healthy cells.”
Kapha is energy that keeps us grounded, connected, and calm. It is a very stable energy, but can also require a lot of help and assistance to get moving.
How does this relate to business? If you feel stuck, feel like you aren’t seeing the progress you want, you may be stuck in a rut with Kapha energy.
On the flip side, getting good practices in place and establishing healthy networking relationships can be essential for helping your business thrive. Thank you very much for the reminder kapha!
How do you know if your Kapha energy is contributing to your Mistakes in Healthcare Business?
What does it feel like when you’re out of alignment with Kapha?
Your business isn’t growing.
You feel stuck.
You are having a hard time moving forward in your business, mainly because you aren’t inspired or really have no ideas on what the best action may be.
It’s hard to get things done, mainly because you feel like you have lost any motivation or momentum.

These may be some common Kapha-caused Mistakes in your healthcare business
You are trying it all alone: You are taking on everything without any kind of assistance, support, or community around you.
You try to do too much: You start by trying to do everything all at once. As a result, you end up feeling overwhelmed or overloaded and then avoid getting anything done because of it.
All your focus is on work: You forget to make time for fun, self-care, rest, and connection with people around you.
Want to avoid or correct the Kapha Mistakes in your Healthcare Business?
Well, there are so many ways to balance Kapha energy. The big thing to remember is that like begets like. This is an essential premise of all Ayurvedic teachings. So if we want to have something different…we need to do something different.
To reconnect with momentum and energy to move forward and grow your business, here are several things you can do.
- Add in higher intensity group fitness classes or (or individual exercise) to your weekly schedule.
- Honor the slow nature of your style and pick a schedule and routine that you can stick to. Give yourself enough time to complete projects, but make them fun and rewarding however appeals to you.
- Kapha thrives in connection. Get out and meet new people. Set out to network at least once per week, or whatever regular schedule works for you.
- Eat spicy foods and do things that are mentally and physically stimulating to build energy and motivation.
- Get an accountability partner or a business coach to support you and keep you on task.
Please remember…Kapha is an amazing energy when harnessed appropriately. This is the energy that gives us stability, connection to the people around us, and the longevity and endurance to accomplish big projects.
We want you to be able to make the most of it!
