Seasons Greetings: Highlights from 2014
Seasons Greetings: Highlights from 2014
Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Holidays, and New Year Everyone!
What a year 2014 has been! Â Thank you for your patience and overwhelming support during my time of recovery this year. Even so, we managed to accomplish great things together!
Here are a few highlights:
- Professional Yoga Therapy Studies accepted the largest classes of cohorts in its over 10 year history.
- My book chapter contribution in Matt Taylor’s, PhD, PT, new book, Fostering Creativity in Rehabilitation was published. My chapter is titled, The Role of Partnership in Creativity. Thank you Matt for championing this movement in rehabilitation!
- Pro bono work with universities across North America led to adding Texas State University, East Carolina University, The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Des Moines University, and AT Still University to the growing list of educational partners who now offer the Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) curriculum.
- AT Still University in Mesa, AZ has become the first university to offer the first classroom version of the 36 hour CE, Yoga as Medicine I (module 8). Now you can join the MTY movement at universities that stretch from Canada to Texas!
- I taught my inaugural course on Hip Labral Injury, a much needed course in a new arena of physical therapy. Unbeknownst to me when I booked the trip to teach at Summa Health Center in Akron, OH, I would be undergoing hip preservation surgery myself just mere weeks after teaching this course. The universe is funny like that sometimes, isn’t it?
- A group of colleagues and myself have submitted the first literature review on DRA, Diastasis Recti Abdominis, a condition all-too-common in postpartum women’s health. I trust that it will find a home for publication in 2015 and will help many clinicians and patients alike by increasing awareness of the great need for DRA care for new moms.
- Perhaps the most poignant highlight of my year was declaring “It’s Okay to Take Care of Me.” When the therapist becomes the patient, good things are bound to happen, even through pain and yes, through weakness and disability. I’ve learned some amazing lessons this year, and want to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and unconditional love they extended to me during this time. All the comments left on my departure post, and the cards and meals that were delivered to me and my family were truly appreciated and tremendously valued. I am deeply grateful for all of you.
I look forward to welcoming 2015. To do that, I’ll be taking a 2 week hiatus from all blogging and social media.
Have a happy, harmonic season of celebration! May it be full of grace and peace.
Shalom,
Ginger
