Transforming Healthcare & Self-Care in 2022 by Encouraging Us to Reconnect with Our Passion(s)
I have several passions, and one of those is teaching. I was honored to have 2 lectures at CSM this year, one in private practice and technology, and another in pelvic health and imaging.
But while the winter to spring season brought growth and an annual time of transition, I took a much needed break to rest and commune with nature.
During this time and often throughout this year, I took time to reconnect with my inner child, the animal world, and the natural world. I always get a chance to slow down and smile, no matter what else is going on around me.
Do you have something like this in your life?

Transforming Healthcare & Self-Care in 2022 – We Hired New Therapists, Expanding Our Clinical & Educational Reach
We welcomed Dr. KC Coninx PT, DPT, COMT, PYT and Dr. Keeli Gailes in 2022, officially expanding Living Well Institute and Garner Pelvic Health! Also, as Eudemomia® was retired as the clinic name it also became the official trademark for a new project we plan to launch in 2023! Dr. KC is our Master Coach at LWI and Dr. Gailes is our new staff therapist at GPH.
Keeli’s wins for the year:
- “I created an Instagram account, and (eventually) figured out how to post and collaborate which was a big step for me!”
- “We held a successful virtual “coffee date” with WUNC Embodied podcast where we got to talk about access issues in pelvic health!”
- “I learned how to navigate reels and had some fun with creativity while making sure that individuals know we are accepting of all pelvises!”
Transforming Self-Care: Trusting in the Timing of Your Life
Dr. KC writes, “I love reflecting back through all these posts. I am seeing the things that I need to see all over again; To learn to trust yourself and your timing in your life, is such a daunting AND relieving task!”
“How much less stress is there if you simply accept and embrace where you are right now? Nothing needs to change in this moment…obviously this goes along with “what you resist, persists” as mentioned in this reflection.”
Brandis Gunderson led our Medical Therapeutic Yoga Class for Catalyst in August. The topic was fitness and Brandis definitely challenged me on the yoga mat, more so than I have been in a while.
While zoom isn’t a perfect medium, you can still create an amazing tone and environment that allows you to feel cared for and connected.
Brandis was one of many members of our Synergy Community who were part of creating a deeper connection between integrative health care providers to help support and nurture one anothers’ business and personal self-care goals.
Thank you to Brandis and all the other teachers over this past year that delivered theme-based MTY live virtual classes. KC always finished these classes feeling deeply connected to herself.

Advanced Training in Ayurveda & Medical Therapeutic Yoga
Prepping for L3, our advanced training for the final step in certification, is always an adventure and 2022 did not disappoint! In order to get ready for the online format, Ginger and Jess started brainstorming during a faculty retreat in the NC mountains in May, and added the final touches to the course schedule in September. Even though we have been teaching this course together for quite a few years now, a new format is like a puzzle. We have all of the pieces spread out, and then we get to have fun arranging….and rearranging….and rearranging. The process is exciting, and the month came to a close as we started counting down the days to welcome the newest group of L3 students in early October.
Transforming Healthcare: The NEW textbook on Integrative & Lifestyle Medicine is published!
Dr. Ginger Garner & Dr. Joe Tatta teamed up to edit and contribute to the first textbook on Integrative & Lifestyle Medicine in Physical Therapy. With 40 authors from across the globe who are experts in ILM, we can’t wait to see how this text transforms PT education and clinical practice across the world!
Virtual Trainings Expand Our Reach into Europe & Hawaii
Living Well Institute’s Virtual L3 was a success! Jess and Ginger missed getting to know this amazing group of healthcare professionals in person, but we were incredibly grateful to be able to connect with folks in the continental United States, Hawaii, and Europe all at the same time.
One of my favorite things about the LWI program is how much each person brings to the table. The experiences, the stories, the knowledge that is presented from each and every person in such an authentic way is incredible. The opportunity to hold space for joy, for tears, for all of the emotions, is something that I am thankful for. I think we all stepped away from this week with our hearts full.
Transforming Healthcare & Self-Care in 2022 by Launching a New Course
In October Dr. Garner launched a new course in partnership with Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute, which expanded the pelvic health community’s awareness and knowledge of how to include the voice in pelvic health assessment and treatment. The first class was full to capacity, which was a welcome sight and incredible experience.
Transforming Healthcare: Teaching North Carolina PT Faculty & Clinical Instructors at Elon University’s Annual CE Program
We had a FULL house at Elon University teaching faculty and clinical instructors across North Carolina about how to immediately apply Integrative and Lifestyle Medicine in Physical Therapy! An absolute highlight of my day was one of my earliest PT mentors and teachers was there, Dr. Cynthia Lewis, PT, PhD! We were both teary ???? I was humbled to be a UNC alum teaching a UNC alum and PT legend, and she was proud to see what one of her Chapel Hill students has achieved.
Also a big highlight was teaching the few new PT grads getting ready to sit for their boards – who are also yoga teachers and pelvic health enthusiasts – who can’t wait to apply yoga in physical therapy as a result of this class!
“Now I understand how this can be integrated into my work as a PT.” That was the most common phrase I heard – I’m just over the moon there’s now 120 or so PT’s who are going to take this knowledge back into academics, research, mentorship, and clinical practice!

Transforming (Expanding) Our Self-Care & Business Coaching for PT’s, OT’s, & Mental Health Pros
We welcomed new members to our Catalyst (Self-Care in Healthcare) & Synergy (Business Coaching) Programs in the fall. It was so wonderful to see new faces of people excited to take their MTY/ILM knowledge and skills to their next levels in business and for personal health.
Writes Dr. KC:
“Ginger welcomed these new members with a really wonderful Group Live Coaching Call about finding your niche using MTY/ILM. I am always amazed at Ginger’s depth of knowledge, honesty, and vulnerability with our live calls. She has a unique capacity of being inspiring and encouraging while making space for you to find your own path forward. And this is truly hard to find in the business coaching world.”

Finishing our Wellness Commitment – 2022 Strong
To round out Transforming Healthcare & Self-Care in 2022, we put an exclamation point on what we preach all year long – integrative self-care & healthcare is the only path to whole health and wellness. We sang, practiced our MTYoga, counted down the days to time off with loved ones, and celebrated our graduates and students wins!
