Here’s a quick list of reasons NOT to use a block between the knees during chair pose!⁠
⁠
✅ If you have had a hip scope (or haven't) and have really tight inner thigh muscles⁠
⁠
✅ If you don't have enough flexibility to bend your knee toward your bum (hip flexor stretch) without cheating (see the video!) aka arching your back or splaying your knee to the side⁠
⁠
✅ If you have hip pain and you have a pinching sensation when you bring your knee to your chest⁠
⁠
✅ If you have pelvic floor pain or tightness, or painful intercourse⁠
⁠
✅ If you are stuck at a desk all day long and you feel like you are stuck in a permanent chair shape⁠
⁠
So if you said YES to anything on this list, please ditch the block!  Instead, I recommend:⁠

✅ Using a yoga belt & applying the MT Yoga approach - watch the videos for details ⁠

✅ Make SURE you are breathing correctly. If not, that can derail your whole practice! If you can't breathe well - check out the videos recommended below on my Youtube channel!⁠

🧘All movement counts y’all.  When this photo was taken I had THREE KIDS 7 and under, I was working on doctorate, writing my first textbook (hence the photo shoot and sneaking a snack that my toddler wanted), and overcoming a major surgery and getting ready to face another (which I had no clue about then), along with a serious diagnosis for my oldest son. I was a hot mess. ⁠

BUT - it’s little self-care snacks like this that got me through. ⁠
Today’s Medical Therapeutic Yoga “self-care snack” is especially for POSTPARTUM PEOPLE and focuses on building core hip & pelvic strength.  However - it’s not JUST for postpartum folks, EVERYONE can benefit from it! ⁠

The best part is that it can be done in less than 5 minutes.  And, science tells us when repeated a few times a day the cumulative effect of movement can be even more effective than one sustained practice! ⁠

Doing interval training using MTY is EXACTLY how I got back in shape after each of my babies. I never had time for a long yoga practice, ever again, after my sons were born. I just got in 5 minutes here and there - and you know what, I actually got into better shape AFTER my pregnancies, and I credit interval training with that because I actually got more cumulative exercise time in. 🔥⁠
